For years, the Nunn School has worked with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/thecipherbrief.com\/\u0022\u003EThe Cipher Brief\u003C\/a\u003E, an Atlanta-based media organization that discusses and provides further context on the security issues of the day. Students and faculty from the College of Engineering, College of Sciences, and Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts have had their research published through this partnership.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EResearch topics range from US-China relations to the security-related roles of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and neurotechnology. Authors share their work in a non-academic setting, writing specifically for the people who create policy.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;This is a way for students to have an outlet to active policymakers,\u0026rdquo; said Associate Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/margaret-e-kosal\u0022\u003EMargaret E. Kosal\u003C\/a\u003E, who formed the partnership alongside retired \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/philip-breedlove\u0022\u003EGen. Philip Breedlove\u003C\/a\u003E, a distinguished professor of the practice in the Nunn School. \u0026ldquo;It also provides a way for students to practice or learn to write for the policy community, as the writing is different than what they are more accustomed to for classes.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESince its founding, the program has merged with The Cipher Brief\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.thecipherbrief.com\/academic-incubator-program\u0022\u003EAcademic Incubator Program\u003C\/a\u003E, which features security-focused schools across the country.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech students have seen incredible success through publishing their work with The Cipher Brief. Noah Crafts, a master\u0026rsquo;s student in international security, is the most recent Yellow Jacket to utilize the Academic Incubator Program. His essay, \u0026ldquo;How China\u0026rsquo;s State-Owned Enterprises Factor Into Cross-Border Financing,\u0026rdquo; was \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/653577\/nunn-school-graduate-student-authors-article-china-state-owned-enterprises\u0022\u003Epublished\u003C\/a\u003E in November.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;As international affairs students, we often conduct research and develop analyses as part of our curriculum requirements,\u0026rdquo; Crafts said. \u0026ldquo;However, The Cipher Brief has afforded me the opportunity to share my research with policymakers and the larger international affairs community.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EJoy Putney, then a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Biological Science and a 2020\u0026ndash;2021 \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cistp.gatech.edu\/programs\/sam-nunn-security-program\/2020-21-sam-nunn-security-fellows\u0022\u003ESam Nunn Security Fellow,\u003C\/a\u003E was invited to brief members of the Japanese government on her findings.
