Orich Publishes Article on “Local Stories with Global Appeal” on Netflix

Annika Orich, assistant professor of German in the School of Modern Languages, published an article titled “Staying Local, Going Global” in German Politics and Society on Dec. 1, 2021.

The article examines Netflix’s Dark, the first Netflix original series made in Germany, and how its international popularity raises questions about Netflix’s business strategy of producing “local stories with global appeal.” In the article, Orich argues how a blending of local and global topics including nuclear power, sustainability, and climate change shows a shift in dynamic between local and global media forms.

The article is available for purchase on the Berghahn Journals website.
