Favero, Powell Co-author on Direct Air Capture Carbon Reduction Method

Alice Favero, associate director of graduate studies in the School of Public Policy, and Julian Powell, a student in the Master of Sustainable Energy and Environmental Management program, were co-authors of a new article published in Greenhouse Gases Science and Technology. The article is titled “Assessing the physical potential capacity of direct air capture with integrated supply of low-carbon energy sources.”

In the article, the authors analyze the needs of Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies, which can remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere. They discuss how DAC technologies need to be near low-carbon (or primarily renewable) energy sources to function properly. They go on to find that DAC technologies would be able to remove the most carbon from the atmosphere when drawing power from solar energy, followed by offshore wind and woody biomass sources.
