Seminar Title: Observations from a Georgia Tech Inspired Leadership Journey

Abstract of Talk:  The seminar includes observations from a 1975 Georgia Tech alumnus to stimulate dialog and conversation of three areas of potential relevance to aspiring professionals. First, filling the need for a broad based, strong and resilient foundation in preparing for the future.  Second, adjusting career objectives and personal approaches while enjoying a dynamic journey of learning, innovation and challenge. And finally, the discussion will include evaluation of the roles that discipline, energy, persistence and personal standards can play in a high-performance environment.  

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker: After graduating from Georgia Tech, Admiral Mauney served at sea as a submarine warfare officer on five submarines operating in the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic and Indian Oceans including as Commanding Officer of USS L. Mendel Rivers. Assignments ashore included leading at submarine squadron and group levels and serving in leadership positions in fleet, pentagon and all-service staffs. As a Flag Officer in Italy, he directed US and allied submarine operations in Europe and east Atlantic/Arctic areas and, in the Pentagon, directed submarine warfare programs (research and development, new submarine procurement and technology development). His final military position was Deputy Commander, US Strategic Command, leading multi-service strategic deterrence, space and cyberspace operations.  Post military as a Vice President at BWX Technologies, Inc., he led teams in in nuclear and chemical manufacturing products and services areas. He is now an independent consultant.
