{"653710":{"#nid":"653710","#data":{"type":"news","title":"GT School of Economics 2021 Year in Review","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E2021 was a special year here in the School of Economics \u0026mdash; we celebrated the 50th anniversary of our first Bachelor\u0026#39;s degrees awarded in 1971!\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWe began the year by honoring the\u0026nbsp;first three graduates, Phillip Jones, Philip Cheaney, and William \u0026quot;Bill\u0026quot; Thompson, Jr., at our virtual \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/community\/distinguishedalumniawards\u0022\u003EIvan Allen College Distinguished Alumni Awards.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHappily, we were able to gather together again for some in-person events too. On homecoming weekend, we hosted our annual\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/652555\/photos-school-economics-alumni-homecoming-tailgate\u0022\u003EAlumni Homecoming Tailgate\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/alumni\/board-of-advisors\u0022\u003EBoard of Advisors for the School of Economics (BASE)\u003C\/a\u003E meeting.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWe also launched a new\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/647082\/endowment-celebrates-years-economics-tech\u0022\u003EEndowment for Excellence in Economics\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;and met our\u0026nbsp;$50,000 matching goal\u0026nbsp;from generous gifts from the SOE community! Then, 2021 gave us more to celebrate with\u0026nbsp;63 graduating students in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/class-of-2021\u0022\u003Espring\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/653635\/congrats-graduates-meet-fall-class\u0022\u003Efall\u003C\/a\u003E Commencement ceremonies. Professor Tibor Besedes\u0026nbsp;was named\u0026nbsp;the next\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/650273\/besedes-dhongde-receive-mary-richard-inman-professorship-faculty-excellence\u0022\u003EMary S. and Richard B.
