The first semester, students will work directly with families staying at the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House and students in North Fulton County Schools. Subsequent semesters, students will have the opportunity to have one-on-one patient interaction at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This depth elective course aims to familiarize students to the program, with the hope that students remain with HealthReach during following semesters as volunteers and course leaders. (Note: this class was previously BMED 4843)

Course Information

BMED 4863 Lam – Depth Elective credit for BME majors

For non BMEs: free elective credit (consult with advisor)

Spring 2021 Schedule (in-person) - Monday Lecture 9:30-10:20am, Tuesday Lab 3:30-6:15pm, and community volunteering (We will be following Institute guidelines for Fall courses).

Course Objectives:

Use problem-based learning skills to o Design, Create, and Teach advance scientific and mathematical material at a simplified level.

Create new human physiology-related modules following design principles.

Study communication, education, and teaching skills for working with school-aged children.

Volunteer in the community either virtually or in-person.

Pre-requisite Requirements:

A commitment to be a part of this program for a minimum of a full calendar year (Spring and Fall 2022)

You must also fill out the online application which can be found at:

Applications will be accepted through November 30th at 5pm. No late applications will be accepted.

Course permits will be issued by December 7th. Space is limited.

For any questions, contact bmehealthreach@gmail.com
