Efforts to retro-commission older buildings to improve their efficiency and indoor air quality, and long-term plans in the new Housing Master Plan will ensure that a sustainability lens is used when looking\u0026nbsp;for\u0026nbsp;improvements to current buildings and future development.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESeveral residence halls now have options for composting, with plans to expand the program. Residents are encouraged to consider their utility consumption through energy competitions and a peer-to-peer educational program called the\u0026nbsp;EcoReps\u0026nbsp;that\u0026nbsp;trains\u0026nbsp;RAs\u0026nbsp;on sustainability topics to inform their residents through programming. CARE Ambassadors\u0026nbsp;create outreach events for the Tech\u0026nbsp;community.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECoffee with CARE is a drop-in opportunity for students to learn about campus and community resources and ask questions in a non-clinical setting.\u202fThis outreach focuses specifically on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities to help reduce barriers to\u0026nbsp;access to mental health resources for traditionally marginalized groups. Events are hosted throughout the school year on a variety of topics.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELearn more about CARE\u0026rsquo;s offerings at\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/care.gatech.edu\/\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Ecare.gatech.edu.\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch4\u003ESustainability Opportunities in Dining\u0026rsquo;s New Operation\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s new in-house dining program began in July of this year.\u0026nbsp;Tech Dining\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;operation presented new\u0026nbsp;opportunities to\u0026nbsp;prioritize\u0026nbsp;sustainability.\u0026nbsp;The department\u0026nbsp;has committed to sustainability\u0026nbsp;by hiring a sustainability specialist and student\u0026nbsp;employees\u0026nbsp;to support the implementation and growth of its sustainability program across campus.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETech\u0026nbsp;Dining\u0026nbsp;prioritizes\u0026nbsp;local, sustainable, and ethical purchasing whenever possible, supporting the local economy and community farmers while increasing the availability of fresh, nutrient-dense produce across campus.\u0026nbsp;Additionally,\u0026nbsp;they work to\u0026nbsp;purchase compostable to-go wares and cutlery as much as\u0026nbsp;possible and\u0026nbsp;seek to identify recyclable alternatives when necessary.\u0026nbsp;Dining also manages institution-wide composting collections at the Exhibition Hall,\u0026nbsp;Brittain\u0026nbsp;and North Avenue Dining Halls, and West Village.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThrough\u0026nbsp;regular sustainability tabling at the Community Market,\u0026nbsp;Tech Dining\u0026rsquo;s local, ethical, and plant-forward offerings are highlighted and often sampled, during regular sustainability tabling at the Community Market. Through updating the existing infrastructure with more efficient LED lighting, energy costs have been reduced by up to 80%. As\u0026nbsp;each of\u0026nbsp;their\u0026nbsp;facilities\u0026nbsp;is\u0026nbsp;built or renovated, the design-build team focuses\u0026nbsp;on meeting ASHRAE standards by opting for a low-finish design that uses fewer materials, outdoor elements that support natural water management, and flexibility of program so that facilities can fulfill multiple needs to maximize space-efficiency.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWaste and recycling practices are also being standardized across the portfolio to ensure that the composting or waste sorting experience is consistent and optimized in\u0026nbsp;all of\u0026nbsp;their buildings. Lighting in the Fitness Center, Basketball Courts, and the Leisure Pool were converted to LED in 2017 with plans to convert the Competition Pool and Stamps Recreation Fields in the future. All program waivers and transactions for patrons have gone digital. Stamps Recreation Fields is a rainwater infiltration area that allows 44,500 cubic feet of water to be gradually released into\u0026nbsp;the ground, recharging the basin\u0026rsquo;s groundwater system.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo support sustainable transportation, the CRC\u0026nbsp;launch\u0026nbsp;the Commuter Shower Pass to expand access to showers on campus for active commuters.
