Giddens, Dean of the College of Engineering at\nGeorgia Tech, has announced the appointment of Dr. Sundaresan Jayaraman as the Kolon\nTerm Professor.\u0026nbsp; Dr. Jayaraman was\nunanimously voted in by the selection committee and will hold the position for\na term of four years. \u0026nbsp;Dr. Jayaraman\nholds a joint appointment between the School of Materials Science and\nEngineering and the College of Management and is actively engaged in cutting\nedge research in smart textiles for healthcare. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe are very excited about this new partnership\nbetween the School of Materials Science and Engineering and Kolon,\u201d said Dean\nGiddens.\u0026nbsp; \u201cThe investment by Kolon in Dr.\nJayaraman\u2019s work demonstrates the importance of academic research to innovation\nin industry.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EDr. Jayaraman and his research\ngroup have made significant contributions in the area of high-tech textiles,\nincluding the realization of the world\u0027s first Wearable Motherboard\u2122, also\nknown as the \u0022Smart Shirt\u0022 (\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.smartshirt.gatech.edu\u0022 title=\u0022www.smartshirt.gatech.edu\u0022\u003Ewww.smartshirt.gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E), currently in\nthe Archives of the Smithsonian\u2019s National\nMuseum of American History in Washington, DC.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; Dr. Jayaraman\u2019s current research interests\ninclude engineering design and analysis of intelligent fibrous structures and\nprocesses, information technology and healthcare including wearable biomedical\nsystems, and the role of technology in public policy. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EKolon was founded as the first Korean chemical fiber manufacturing company in 1957, and has been\nleading the Korean chemical fiber manufacturing industry from that time.
