{"650970":{"#nid":"650970","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Urmanbetova and Nair-Reichert Honored As 2021 Georgia Tech Faces Of Inclusive Excellence","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAssociate Academic Professional \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/aselia-urmanbetova\u0022\u003EAselia Urmanbetova\u003C\/a\u003E and\u0026nbsp;Associate Professor\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/usha-nair-reichert\u0022\u003EUsha Neir-Reichert\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;were among those recognized as \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/diversity.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/2021_faces_of_inclusive_excellence.pdf\u0022\u003E2021 Faces of Inclusive Excellence\u003C\/a\u003E at the 13\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E annual Georgia Tech Diversity Symposium on Sept. 15.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn total, fifteen individuals from the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts were honored for their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their research and community engagement.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENair-Reichert was chosen for producing \u0026quot;significant scholarship in economic development and sustainability\u0026quot; and her acceptance to the competitive\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/648783\/associate-professor-usha-nair-reichert-selected-emerging-leaders-program\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Emerging Leaders Program\u003C\/a\u003E, among other reasons.\u0026nbsp;Urmanbetova was honored for being \u0026quot;accepted into a highly competitive program developed by the American Economic Association\u0026#39;s Expanding Diversity in Undergraduate Classes With Advancements in the Teaching of Economics,\u0026quot; as well as her contributions to the Ivan Allen College\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dei.iac.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;This year\u0026rsquo;s honorees for Faces of Inclusive Excellence illustrate Ivan Allen College\u0026rsquo;s pledge to create a sense of belonging on campus and in our community,\u0026rdquo; said Kaye Husbands Fealing, dean of the Ivan Allen College. \u0026ldquo;The work of our faculty, staff, and students demonstrates our goal to define spaces for all voices to be heard and understood, and to develop human-centered solutions to the social challenges that impact society today and into the future.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEach year, Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Office of Institute, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion announces its Faces of Inclusive Excellence as part of the annual Diversity Symposium. For the 13\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E year, the Symposium focused on the globalization of anti-racism activism.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EProf. Kirk Bowman, Rise Up \u0026amp; Care Term Chair in Global Development \u0026amp; Identity in the Sam Nunn Shool of International Affairs, led a panel about how local grassroots efforts to combat racism have inspired global movements. Black Media Studies Asst. Prof. Joycelyn Wilson and Doctoral student Jancy Ling Liu of the School of Economics both participated in the panel.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENational Book Award-winning historian and author of \u0026ldquo;How to Be an Antiracist,\u0026rdquo; Ibram X. Kendi, who served as keynote speaker for this year\u0026rsquo;s event, spoke about the new era of activism and the urgency of individuals and organizations around the world to end racism and discrimination as a threat to humanity.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELiterature, Media, and Communications Assoc.
