This unique long-standing tradition is open to\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003Efirst year\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech students. This race dates back to 1911, when the first Cake Race was held as an open cross-country run at Georgia Tech. Two years later, some of the faculty member\u0026rsquo;s wives started baking cakes for the winners, thus the name Cake Race was created. While the race\u0026rsquo;s original purpose was to scout men for the track team, today\u0026#39;s participants are encouraged to run, jog, or walk. Each participant receives a cupcake upon completion and the male and female winners receive cakes and get to meet Mr. and Mrs. GT. Each first year receives a cupcake at the end of the race.
