Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences\u003C\/a\u003E, is the primary investigator for the Curtis Lab, which researches the physics of cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions, in particular within the context of glycobiology and immunobiology.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/biosciences.gatech.edu\/people\/stephen-diggle\u0022\u003ESteve Diggle\u003C\/a\u003E, associate professor, School of Biological Sciences\u003C\/em\u003E. Diggle, also a member of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/microdynamics.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECenter for Microbial Dynamics and Infection\u003C\/a\u003E, was recently selected to be a 2021 American Society of Microbiologists Distinguished Lecturer. Diggle researches cooperation and communication in microbes and how these are related to virulence, biofilms and antimicrobial resistance.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/eas.gatech.edu\/people\/reinhard-dr-chris\u0022\u003EChris Reinhard\u003C\/a\u003E, associate professor, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences\u003C\/em\u003E. Reinhard\u0026rsquo;s research explores the ways in which Earth\u0026#39;s biosphere and planetary boundary conditions act to reshape ocean\/atmosphere chemistry and climate, how these interactions have evolved over time, and how they might be engineered moving forward. Reinhard has also been active in the Georgia Tech Astrobiology community.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGretzinger Moving Forward Award\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis award, named for Ralph Gretzinger (\u0026rsquo;70 Math) and his late wife Jewel, recognizes the leadership of a school chair or senior faculty member who has played a pivotal role in diversifying the composition of tenure-track faculty, creating a family-friendly work environment, and providing a supportive environment for early career faculty.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/chemistry.gatech.edu\/people\/lieberman\/raquel\u0022\u003ERaquel Lieberman\u003C\/a\u003E, professor, School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003ELieberman, principal investigator in the Lieberman Lab, researches protein folding and misfolding, particularly when it comes to proteins that are linked to early-onset, inherited forms of glaucoma. A second\u0026nbsp;major project involves the study of membrane-spanning proteolytic enzymes that are related to those involved in producing amyloid-beta associated with Alzheimer disease.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFrances O. Hite Memorial Scholarship\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis scholarship is established in memory of Frances Orr \u0026ldquo;Fran\u0026rdquo; Hite (1950-2019), B.S. Mathematics, Vanderbilt University, by Bruce Hite (\u0026rsquo;72 Building Construction.) The endowment fund provides scholarships to women studying mathematics at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cem\u003EEsther Gallmeier, 4\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E\u0026nbsp;year student, School of Mathematics.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EGallmeier is the first recipient of the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/math.gatech.edu\/news\/georgia-tech-launches-frances-o-hite-scholarships\u0022\u003EHite Memorial Scholarship\u003C\/a\u003E. Gallmeier attended Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and decided to attend Georgia Tech based on the experiences of a friend who attended the School of Mathematics. \u0026quot;He loved it here,\u0026quot; she says. \u0026quot;Also, Georgia Tech is incredible at providing opportunities for undergraduates in research and internships.
