Nunn School Chair Adam Stulberg Published in End of an Era: The United States, Russia, and Nuclear Proliferation

On August 23, 2021, the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey published End of an Era: The United States, Russia, and Nuclear Proliferation. The volume, edited by Sarah Bidgood and William C. Potter, identifies key nonproliferation challenges facing the US-Russia relationship. The articles published in the journal provide suggestionsfor specific measures that could create a beneficial impact on the relationship due to the recent political changes in the United States. Drawing on seven case studies, numerous authors detail scenarios in which the US and Russia have previously gained common ground and may do so again. Chapter three of the publication was written by Sam Nunn School Chair Adam Stulberg and Nunn School Ph.D. student Jonathan Darsey. Their chapter, entitled “Moving Beyond Self-Restraint: Bilateral Commerical Nuclear Supply and US-Russian Tacit Understanding on Nuclear Security and International Safeguards,” illustrates how Moscow and Washington can leverage their tacit understanding and balance nuclear security with commerce. You can find the chapter here.
