Buildings require a lot of energy to provide the services that are so much a part of our everyday lives - lighting, warmth in the winter, cooling in the summer, water heating, computing, refrigeration, the operation of equipment and devices and more. In fact, according to the Energy Information Association, residential and commercial buildings alone consume more energy than the transportation or industry sectors and account for nearly 40 percent of the United States’ total energy consumption. Georgia Tech researchers are developing new energy technologies and consumption strategies to create efficient and environmentally-sound solutions for our Building Energy Needs.
