{"649150":{"#nid":"649150","#data":{"type":"news","title":"EcoReps Program Back for the Fall","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EBy Thiago Esslinger\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech has\u0026nbsp;numerous\u0026nbsp;student\u0026nbsp;organizations\u0026nbsp;and initiatives\u0026nbsp;on campus working towards similar goals\u0026nbsp;to\u0026nbsp;advance environmental, social, and economic sustainability.\u0026nbsp;What, then, makes the\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;EcoReps\u0026nbsp;Program\u0026nbsp;unique? Unlike any sustainability opportunity\u0026nbsp;for students to get involved in, this\u0026nbsp;program\u0026nbsp;specifically supports Resident Assistants\u0026nbsp;(RAs)\u0026nbsp;in\u0026nbsp;promoting, teaching, and exemplifying sustainable practices for and with their\u0026nbsp;on-campus residents.\u0026nbsp;Benefits of the\u0026nbsp;program\u0026nbsp;include $150 to support education\/outreach efforts in residence halls,\u0026nbsp;meeting other sustainability-minded RAs,\u0026nbsp;networking with Campus Sustainability and Housing \u0026amp; Residence Life leadership, recognition by the Office of Campus Sustainability, and\u0026nbsp;sustainable\u0026nbsp;graduation memorabilia at the end of the semester.\u0026nbsp;All\u0026nbsp;RAs\u0026nbsp;are invited and encouraged to apply to the\u0026nbsp;program\u0026nbsp;by August 23,\u0026nbsp;2021,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/rnhw7939\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Ehere\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;EcoReps\u0026nbsp;Program\u0026nbsp;was created in Fall 2020\u0026nbsp;with an\u0026nbsp;inaugural\u0026nbsp;class of 12 participating RAs.\u0026nbsp;Members of the\u0026nbsp;program, referred to as\u0026nbsp;\u0026ldquo;EcoReps,\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;explored such\u0026nbsp;topics\u0026nbsp;as\u0026nbsp;marketing sustainability,\u0026nbsp;energy conservation,\u0026nbsp;responsible consumerism,\u0026nbsp;waste management, personal care products,\u0026nbsp;environmental justice, fashion, foods, and\u0026nbsp;transportation.\u0026nbsp;The group was\u0026nbsp;supported by the\u0026nbsp;Residential Sustainability Engagement Assistant (student) in Housing \u0026amp; Residence Life and\u0026nbsp;experts from the Office of Campus Sustainability, Auxiliary Services, Office of Solid Waste Management \u0026amp; Recycling, and local Atlanta organizations such as the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance and Last Bottle Clothing.\u0026nbsp;Following\u0026nbsp;biweekly\u0026nbsp;trainings,\u0026nbsp;EcoReps\u0026nbsp;were encouraged to implement the topics they learned into practice by hosting\u0026nbsp;sustainability-themed\u0026nbsp;events for their residents.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStarting Fall 2021,\u0026nbsp;EcoReps\u0026nbsp;will attend two member retreats at the beginning of the semester to learn about sustainability topics and meet each other through fun activities and games. Throughout the\u0026nbsp;semester,\u0026nbsp;EcoReps\u0026nbsp;will be required to\u0026nbsp;host a minimum of 3 sustainability-themed events for their residents, collaborate with their class to launch a residential sustainability initiative, and regularly attend biweekly meetings focused on brainstorming and planning,\u0026nbsp;with occasional guest speakers.\u0026nbsp;Furthermore,\u0026nbsp;they\u0026nbsp;will also be able to\u0026nbsp;join\u0026nbsp;optional social events\u0026nbsp;hosted throughout the semester\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;have the chance to\u0026nbsp;connect\u0026nbsp;with Housing\u0026nbsp;\u0026amp; Residence Life leadership by\u0026nbsp;supporting\u0026nbsp;existing\u0026nbsp;initiatives such as the Energy Competition in the\u0026nbsp;Fall\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;the Move-Out program in the Spring.\u0026nbsp;If you are passionate about residential sustainability and hope to increase your impact as an RA, consider applying\u0026nbsp;to\u0026nbsp;the program!
