Undergraduate Research, Invention and Entrepreneurship: Shaping Our World through Innovative Engagement

Academic Engagement Programs, Office of Undergraduate Education

Georgia Tech is a leading research university and provides extraordinary opportunities for students to enter the exciting world of discovery and innovation. Opportunities for research experience are available year-round, either for course credit or for pay. Research classes for credit count toward free electives in most majors and discipline-specific electives in others. Faculty mentors may hire students as research assistants, or students may receive funding through the President’s Undergraduate Research Award (PURA ) urop.gatech.edu/pura.

Throughout the year, our office works to engage our current students in research across all disciplines and at all levels. Please check the UROP website (urop.gatech.edu) for the latest events and other programmatic details. Students may also follow us on Facebook (@GTUROP), Twitter (@GTUROP), Instagram (@gt_urop), or contact us at urop@gatech.edu.

Serving as a complement to undergraduate research, The Student Innovation Program (SI) assists students in the practical application of their discoveries. Through various workshops, competitions, classes, and funding resources we help students pursue, test, and develop their ideas with the goal of launching a startup company or commercializing their work. These programs help students develop strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential to all their future endeavors. In addition, students are exposed to opportunities to collaborate with on- and off-campus organizations and departments to expand their network and possibilities.

More information is available on the Student Innovation website at innovation.gatech.edu.
