Randolph Awarded Fellowships from the University of Connecticut and Brown University

Sherie M. Randolph, associate professor in the School of History and Sociology, has received two prestigious fellowships.

During the 2021-2022 academic year, Randolph will be a fellow at the University of Connecticut’s Humanities Institute. While in residence at the Institute, Randolph will work on her next book, “Bad” Black Mothers: A History of Transgression.

Excited about the time she now has to process her research, Randolph states, “This fellowship allows me the opportunity to write my book as well as giving me an intellectually diverse community to share my ideas and to sharpen my arguments. This is an invaluable opportunity that will help me produce a significant scholarly contribution that has implications for our understanding of the connections between family, race, gender, and freedom.”

Randolph also received a non-residency fellowship from Brown University’s Howard Foundation for her scholarship in the fields of African American history and Black Feminist Thought. This grant is awarded to associate professors who have completed at least one major project and demonstrated leadership in their fields.

The School of History and Sociology is a unit of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
