  <title><![CDATA[Rubin Named 2021 Templeton Fellow]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Larry Rubin, associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has been named a 2021 Templeton Fellow&nbsp;in National Security at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://inta.gatech.edu/people/person/lawrence-rubin">Rubin</a>, a former senior advisor in the US Office of the Secretary of Defense, is a&nbsp;national security expert focusing on Middle East politics, nuclear proliferation, and terrorism, as well as Islamic movements. He was also recently named co-editor of&nbsp;<em><a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/ftpv20/current">Terrorism and Political Violence</a></em>, the leading journal in terrorism studies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;I got involved with the FPRI by guest editing a special issue for their flagship journal, Orbis, &ldquo;<a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/orbis/vol/64/issue/4">Emerging Technology and National Security</a>,&rdquo; in the fall of 2020, as well as publishing a few articles in the journal,&rdquo; Rubin said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&ldquo;Being selected as a 2021 Templeton Fellow is an honor and important opportunity for greater engagement in the field of emerging technology and national security policy.&rdquo;</p>

<p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fpri.org/about/">Foreign Policy Research Institute</a>&nbsp;is an international policy think tank that aims to produce nonpartisan policy analysis on foreign policy and national security challenges the US faces while educating the American public.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of his first actions as fellow will be speaking in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fpri.org/event/2021/small-satellite-proliferation-advanced-technologies-and-their-security-implications/">event</a>&nbsp;&ldquo;Small Satellite Proliferation, Advanced Technologies, and Their Security Implications,&rdquo; on June 1, 2021 at 11 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;The event will focus on the uncontrolled re-entry of China&rsquo;s rocket on May 9, 2021.&nbsp;<a href="https://iac.gatech.edu/people/person/mariel-borowitz">Mariel Borowitz</a>,&nbsp;associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, will also be speaking at the event.&nbsp;</p>
