{"646481":{"#nid":"646481","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Vaccine Appointments Available on Campus","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EWhat started as a single shipment of 1,200 Covid-19 vaccine doses\u0026nbsp;on Jan.\u0026nbsp;12\u0026nbsp;has grown to a full-fledged campus vaccination effort that sees\u0026nbsp;nearly\u0026nbsp;1,000 people being inoculated daily.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith Covid-19 vaccines available to all Georgia residents\u0026nbsp;16 years of age and older, Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s vaccine clinics are now able to meet the demand of students, faculty, and staff who have been\u0026nbsp;eager\u0026nbsp;for appointments for weeks. Thus far,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/health.gatech.edu\/coronavirus\/vaccine\/dashboard\u0022\u003Earound 15,000 members\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;of the campus community have received at least one dose at Tech\u0026rsquo;s Exhibition Hall, and\u0026nbsp;almost 6,000 have received two doses. (\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/news.gatech.edu\/features\/getting-vaccine\u0022\u003ERead why some of them got the vaccine\u003C\/a\u003E.) Georgia Tech is distributing the Pfizer vaccine, which is a two-dose vaccine.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFor those who may have been waiting for others to go first, on the fence about vaccination, or not wanting to hunt for an appointment, now is the time to sign up. Appointments are open nearly every day in April and can be booked at\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/mytest.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003Emytest.gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E. Vaccination is free and the process takes about 20\u0026nbsp;to\u0026nbsp;30 minutes, including a 15-minute monitoring period after vaccination. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, was one person who thought \u0026ldquo;waiting his turn,\u0026rdquo; even though he was eligible, was the right thing to do. After talking with a colleague, though, he realized his hesitation could be problematic.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I heard many people were eligible for the vaccine but did not get it. I teach remotely and can avoid encounters with others,\u0026rdquo; Zhou said. \u0026ldquo;So, I thought I could help if I let others get it first. However,\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.isye.gatech.edu\/users\/pinar-keskinocak\u0022\u003EPinar Keskinocak\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;and others told me that it is people like me\u0026nbsp;who\u0026nbsp;slow down the process. Therefore, I went to get my shots and recorded the process to urge others to do the same.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EVaccination opens up the possibility to resume some activities that many people have put on hold for over a year.\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html\u0022\u003EAs of\u0026nbsp;April\u0026nbsp;2\u003C\/a\u003E, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that fully\u0026nbsp;vaccinated people can resume domestic travel and do not need to get tested before or after travel,\u0026nbsp;or self-quarantine after travel. The CDC also advises that\u0026nbsp;they\u0026nbsp;can visit with other fully vaccinated people without masks or physical\u0026nbsp;distancing, and\u0026nbsp;visit\u0026nbsp;indoors\u0026nbsp;with unvaccinated people from a single household who are at low risk for severe Covid-19 disease without wearing masks or physical distancing.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStill, those who are vaccinated are encouraged to take precautions in public\u0026nbsp;places, such as wearing a mask and physical distancing, and to wear masks, maintain distance, and practice other prevention measures\u0026nbsp;when\u0026nbsp;visiting with unvaccinated people from multiple households.
