Welcoming Yellow Jacket Families to Campus This Spring

In a departure from previous years, Parent and Family Programs will be hosting a hybrid Spring Family Weekend March 13 – 16. Because Georgia Tech has canceled this year’s spring break due to the pandemic (like many other colleges across the country), students will not have the same opportunity to visit family or take a vacation. Instead, the Institute has planned days off on Tuesday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 24, to give students a break from their studies. Events such as Spring Family Weekend are being planned during that time to encourage students to have some fun and take a break. It is also a perfect opportunity to invite families to visit students safely.

"The Parent and Family Programs staff is excited to collaborate with campus partners to host our special hybrid Spring Family Weekend,” said Laci Weeden, director of Parent and Family Programs. “We know this academic year has been hard for students and their families and we hope this provides a small opportunity for additional student support and family connection in as safe an environment as possible."

This weekend of events will look different from past Georgia Tech Family Weekends but will offer families a hybrid option that allows them to connect with their students while staying as safe as possible. Activities include a virtual Institute Update with President Ángel Cabrera; virtual Tech Talks with John Stein, vice president of Student Life and Brandt-Fritz Dean of Students Chair; self-guided campus tours with parents and their student; webinars with colleges and schools; a trip to Zoo Atlanta co-hosted by the Student Center Programs Council; and a few other special virtual activities.

All events will be virtual and free, except for the socially distanced Zoo Atlanta event. Family Weekend t-shirts will be available for purchase, for pickup, or delivered by mail. Family Weekend at Georgia Tech is special time to connect families and students, to allow families to learn more about campus life, and for families to create special memories together.
