  <title><![CDATA[A Conversation with Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo (hosted by the School of Economics)]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Fifty years ago, this spring, Georgia Tech awarded its first three degrees in economics, marking a milestone in the School of Economics&#39; journey from a small service unit to a dynamic center of scholarship and education.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To mark the 50<sup>th</sup> anniversary of the School of Economics, we will be hosting a Distinguished Speaker Series featuring prominent figures at Georgia Tech to discuss economics and beyond with faculty, staff, and students.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>A Conversation with Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo </strong></p>

<p><strong>Encouraging Social Distancing during Covid:&nbsp; Evidence from Randomized Trials in Disadvantaged Communities</strong></p>

<p><a href="https://economics.mit.edu/faculty/eduflo">Esther Duflo</a> is the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics in the Department of Economics at MIT and a co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).&nbsp;</p>

<p>In her research, she seeks to understand the economic lives of the poor, with the aim to help design and evaluate social policies. Duflo&nbsp;has received the 2019 Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences (with co-Laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer).&nbsp; She received a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT in 1999.&nbsp;</p>
