Working as a summer cohort and in community pairs, interns are placed into local municipalities to support smart technology projects that are dedicated to creating livable and equitable communities. In addition to a full-time summer stipend, SCC are provided curriculum programming in sustainability, innovation, career development and mentorship. The program is open to both Georgia Tech and other Georgia college undergraduate and graduate students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESCC Collaborators and Pair Model:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe Smart Community Corps internship is a joint collaboration with the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/serve-learn-sustain.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS)\u003C\/a\u003E, the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/career.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Career Center\u003C\/a\u003E, and the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/sga.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EStudent Government Association (SGA)\u003C\/a\u003E. Through this partnership, our summer cohort of interns will participate in bi-weekly programming and educational seminars that introduce students to theories of grassroots sustainability\/innovation, as well as career development, writing, and mentorship. SCC internships are funded by a generous gift from\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EMicrosoft Corporation\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;to advance students\u0026rsquo; experiences working on real-life problems in a community environment as a way to apply their skills and improve the lives of residents.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nWe work with higher education institutions in Georgia, such as\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EValdosta State University\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/datascience.aucenter.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EAUC Data Science Initiative\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;to open the internship opportunity to both Georgia Tech and other Georgia college students. Each community opportunity will place interns in pairs (1 Georgia Tech student and 1 Georgia college student) to work together on a project. The aim is to bring students together with complementary skillsets, experiences, and expertise so that together they can learn from each other and leverage their joint work for cross-learning and co-creation with the community. The pair also works closely with the designated Georgia Tech lead researcher for research guidance and expertise.
