{"642011":{"#nid":"642011","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Satellite Observations of Atmosphere-Ice-Ocean Interactions Around Antarctica","body":[{"value":"\u003Ch4\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EThe School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Presents Susheel Adusumilli, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h4\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESatellite Observations of Atmosphere-Ice-Ocean Interactions Around Antarctica\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\r\n\u003Cp\u003EA recent study that will help drive the conclusions of the upcoming IPCC report uses multiple ice-sheet models to project that Antarctic ice loss will contribute -8 to 30 cm to global mean sea level rise by 2100 under the SSP5-8.5 scenario.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe reason for the large uncertainty in these projections is the\u0026nbsp;inability of models to adequately represent the processes that control atmosphere-ice-ocean interactions.\u0026nbsp;In this talk, I will show how recent advances in satellite altimetry and photogrammetry can improve our understanding of several key processes such as ocean-driven ice melt and atmosphere-driven changes in snowfall.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn the case of ocean-driven ice melt, I will\u0026nbsp;demonstrate how these observations can be used to improve the representation of ice-ocean interactions\u0026nbsp;in current models, focusing in particular on key regions such as grounding zones where the\u0026nbsp;ice sheet transitions from being fully grounded to freely floating.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"A seminar by Susheel Adusumilli, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences"}],"uid":"34458","created_gmt":"2020-12-10 13:37:37","changed_gmt":"2021-01-15 14:19:47","author":"nlawson3","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","field_event_time":{"event_time_start":"2021-01-21T11:00:00-05:00","event_time_end":"2021-01-21T12:00:00-05:00","event_time_end_last":"2021-01-21T12:00:00-05:00","gmt_time_start":"2021-01-21 16:00:00","gmt_time_end":"2021-01-21 17:00:00","gmt_time_end_last":"2021-01-21 17:00:00","rrule":null,"timezone":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"hg_media":{"642010":{"id":"642010","type":"image","title":"Susheel Adsumilli","body":null,"created":"1607606606","gmt_created":"2020-12-10 13:23:26","changed":"1607606606","gmt_changed":"2020-12-10 13:23:26","alt":"","file":{"fid":"243912","name":"S.
