{"641722":{"#nid":"641722","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Roman Frontier Archaeology Field School","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EJoin the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.archaeotek-archaeology.org\/roman-villa-excavation\u0022 rel=\u0022noopener noreferrer\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ERoman Villa and Settlement Excavation\u003C\/a\u003E, in the ancient province of Dacia (Transylvania, Romania).This program provides an unique opportunity to conduct extensive hands-on training and research on an exceptional Roman rural site, unique in the region.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe project incorporates anthropological and Classical approaches in an effort to understand the construction and expression of Roman identity and wealth in an unstable frontier environment. The site is a palatial size (i.e. over 1ha of built space) rural villa, extensively mapped through GPR survey.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EExcavations\u0026nbsp;have unearthed already a rich environment, with 2 story buildings, the presence of a hypocaust, interior and exterior walls covered in frescoes, potential colonnades, several buildings outside the villa complex itself and a plethora of artifacts. Excavation will continue in 2021.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EParticipants are also able to\u0026nbsp;integrate a week of Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) intensive field and analytical training to their field school. The\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.archaeotek-archaeology.org\/applied-field-geophysics-gpr\u0022 rel=\u0022noopener noreferrer\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EGeophysics (GPR) Exploration and Roman Excavation\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;program allows students to acquire a highly marketable and useful skill set in Classical and Historical archaeology.
