With a very active and cold winter weather season, it is hard to believe that our severe weather season is soon upon us.  Together with the National Weather Service and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), the Georgia Tech Office of Emergency Preparedness encourages all Georgia Tech Students, Faculty and Staff to become better prepared for severe weather.  To this end, we are promoting awareness within departments and buildings on campus, focusing on basic preparedness. 

You can assist us with two major items:

• Severe Weather Awareness Week at Georgia Tech: February 7th - 11th On February 8th and February 9th, we will be at the Campus Recreation Center distributing information about Severe Weather and personal preparedness.  If you are in the area, please stop by and say hello!
• On Thursday, February 10th, we are conducting a brownbag class entitled, "Identifying and Reporting Severe Weather."  This will be in the Piedmont Room of the Student Center from 11:30-12:30.  You can sign up for the class at www.trainsweb.gatech.edu. 

New Emergency Response Guidebook 

Before Christmas, we published the newly created Emergency Response Guidebook.  The GT Emergency Response Guidebook is a quick reference guide that instructs students, faculty and staff on the immediate actions to take during various emergencies on campus.  The Guidebook is not meant to replace existing campus emergency plans, but to provide easier access to the information, in a short quick reference format.

Also, if your department is interested, we have set up the document for printing in larger quantities at OIT's  Print and Copy Services.  Copies of the guide are in a spiral bound, with a clear plastic cover and tabs for each section.  Just call Printing and Copying Services and ask for the Emergency Response Guidebook.

Severe weather can affect anyone. Taking simple steps like determining where you will shelter during a tornado warning, having a disaster supply kit and signing up for emergency notification can enhance every individuals ability to respond to and recover from a severe weather event.
