Davis Jr. elaborated on the\nreductions recommended for the USG by Governor Nathan Deal in his FY11 and FY12\nbudget proposals before the Joint Appropriations Committee on Tuesday, January\n18th.\u0026nbsp; Though he committed to work with\nlegislators with the resources available, Davis reiterated that challenges\ncould wait ahead in future budget years.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIn Deal\u2019s proposed budget, which was released as a part of his\nState of the State address, cuts of $112 million and $185 million were\nrecommended for the USG\u2019s FY11 Amended and FY12 appropriations,\nrespectively.\u0026nbsp; If enacted, these\nreductions would reflect a net state appropriations reduction of $550 million,\nor\u0026nbsp; 24%, in the past three years.\nEnrollment at USG institutions increased by 37,000 during the same period.\u0026nbsp; Georgia Tech receives a portion of these\nallocations.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe University System\u2019s formula funds, used for day to day\noperations, take the brunt of these cuts.\u0026nbsp;\nThough the amount of these funds allocated typically increases\nincrementally each year to compensate for enrollment growth, no increase is\nsuggested for FY12.\u0026nbsp; The USG requested\n$177 million in new formula funds to offset the addition of almost 19,000\nstudents in FY10.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EDavis noted that though previous cuts have been managed through\n\u201cincreased efficiencies, innovation, and tuition and fee support from\nstudents,\u201d the growing enrollment in Georgia\u2019s public colleges and universities\nwould require additional formula funding in coming years. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe USG bond package, used to fund capital improvements, is also\ngreatly reduced in the lean budget proposal for FY12.\u0026nbsp; Governor Deal recommended $81 million in bond\nfunds across the University System, less than half of the $177 million\nauthorized in FY11.\u0026nbsp; Funding for\u0026nbsp; Tech\u2019s Eco-Commons infrastructure project is\nincluded in the governor\u2019s FY12 budget proposal.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIn a message to\nthe campus community, President G.
