Using Brooke\u0026#39;s novel as a case study, , Hoffman presents a narrative of her journey to learn how easy to use and online based data visualization programs can not only aid in her research but also in her pedagogy.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EHannah Markey\u003C\/strong\u003E (3rd-year Brittain Fellow) has a new essay forthcoming this fall in a collection on \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.palgrave.com\/gp\/book\/9783030535971\u0022\u003EBritish Literature and Psychopharmacology\u003C\/a\u003E.In \u0026ldquo;Pharmacokinetics and Opium-Eating: Metabolites, Stomach Aches and the Afterlife of De Quincey\u0026rsquo;s Addiction,\u0026rdquo; Markley relies on current psychopharmacological understandings of how drugs \u0026lsquo;act\u0026rsquo; and, in turn, are acted on by the body to produce drug effects, drawing attention to the entanglement of action and effect in modern scientific discussions of drugs. By focusing on the ways opiates are metabolized by the body, Markley argues that, despite his technically flawed accounts, De Quincey\u0026rsquo;s rhetoric of \u0026lsquo;opium-eating\u0026rsquo; in Confessions (1821) forecasts current psychopharmacological explanations of how bodies and drugs interact.
