Tissue engineering – the use of cells, materials, physical cues, and chemical cues to create functional tissue constructs – will lead to the development of microphysicological systems that reduce the reliance on animal testing in pharmaceutical studies and the development of therapeutic implants that improve quality of life and reduce the organ donor shortage problem. However, for these advancements to become a reality, engineered tissues need to be manufactured and distributed on a much larger scale than is currently feasible in traditional laboratory settings. Several workflow areas need to be addressed including cell culture, biomaterial development, tissue/construct fabrication, tissue/construct culture, and tissue/construct storage and transport. This talk will highlight how 3D bioprinting can be used to address some of the challenges in the manufacturing of engineered tissues.

Bio:
Nicole Diamantides is a Bioprinting Field Application Scientist at CELLINK, a leading bioprinting company. She joined CELLINK in 2019 after completing her PhD at Cornell University. At Cornell, Nicole worked on the development of novel collagen bioink formulations for bioprinting cartilage and collaborated with Histogenics Corp. to mechanically characterize their investigational cartilage tissue implant. Nicole received her BS in Biomedical Engineering from Bucknell University and her MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University.

{"637881":
http://hg.gatech.edu//sites/default/files/images/VERTICAL-Lunch%20and%20Learn%20Header-v1-TechGold.jpg
image/jpeg
path_740":"http://hg.gatech.edu/sites/default/files/styles/740xx_scale/public/images/VERTICAL-Lunch%20and%20Learn%20Header-v1-TechGold.jpg?itok=0WWf4taX
637881
