Former Senator Sam Nunn, namesake and distinguished professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, and Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, former U.S. Department of Energy deputy secretary and now a distinguished professor in the Nunn School participated in the “At the Brink” podcast, a project by former Defense Secretary William Perry.

In the podcast Senator Sam Nunn, Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, Bill Perry, and Ash Carter, former U.S. Secretary Defense, discuss the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program, which was implemented after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Senator Sam Nunn and Senator Richard Lugar created the Nunn-Lugar Program to help secure and dismantle weapons of mass destruction in the former states of the Soviet Union. During this time, Sherwood-Randall served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and maintained the overall defense relationship with all 15 states of the formal Soviet Union. The Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat reduction helped dismantle around 4,000 nuclear bombs in the former Soviet Union.

<!-- Disquisition: it's funny how I write these TODOs and then never
revisit them. It's as though the act of writing the thing down frees me
