{"634886":{"#nid":"634886","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech\u0027s National Society of Black Engineers Chapter Wins Chapter of the Year Award","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has won the 2019-20 Large Chapter of the Year Award.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis is the third consecutive year the Tech chapter has been the recipient of the award on the regional level and the first time in over a decade it has received the honor on the national level.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENominated by NSBE\u0026rsquo;s regional executive boards, and selected by its scholarship and awards committee, high-achieving collegiate and NSBE junior groups were chosen as the Society\u0026rsquo;s \u0026ldquo;best exemplars and promoters of academic excellence, professional success, community service and cultural responsibility\u0026rdquo; during the 2019\u0026ndash;20 programmatic year.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;It\u0026rsquo;s been an honor and a privilege to be part of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.gtsbe.org\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Society of Black Engineers\u003C\/a\u003E (GTSBE) for the past four years,\u0026rdquo; said chapter president Ndeyanta Jallow, a fourth-year Industrial Engineering major,\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech Provost Scholar, and spring 2020 graduate. \u0026ldquo;This organization has a been monumental part of some of the best and brightest engineers who go on to graduate from Georgia Tech. This year specifically, the awards and recognitions we received truly showcase the drive, ambition, and passion that our general body members and executive board members have for this organization.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EChapter vice president Pampam Akinyemi, a fourth-year Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering major added, \u0026ldquo;For the past four years, I have had the privilege to be a part of this wonderful organization. Personally, I have been able to grow as a leader and more importantly as a person. Even though my journey with GTSBE has come to an end, I am very excited to see what the future of GTSBE leadership has to be bring.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFounded in 1976, one year after the national organization was formed, GTSBE is the third-largest organization on campus with around 250 members. The chapter would go on to win NSBE\u0026rsquo;s first-ever National Distinguished Chapter of the Year Award.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESpecific criteria for selection of chapter awards included creativity, diversity and consistency in programming, as well as intensity of engagement with other chapters, NSBE\u0026rsquo;s regional and national executive boards, and with NSBE\u0026rsquo;s 2019\u0026ndash;20 National Directives.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOther collegiate winners include Northeastern University (National Medium-Sized Chapter) and Hampton University (National Small-Sized Chapter).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn-person celebration of these honors is scheduled to take place in August, as chapter members take the stage at the Henry B.
