Due to the rapid spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and the resulting travel restrictions, Georgia Tech students and faculty will now be presenting their research virtually at the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iclr.cc\/Conferences\/2020\u0022\u003EInternational Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR)\u003C\/a\u003E, one of the biggest artificial intelligence (AI) conferences in the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith 17 papers to present, presenters will create a five minute video to be used during virtual poster sessions. Despite this new format, Georgia Tech is still poised to display its leadership in AI and deep learning.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EResearch includes a paper co-written by Georgia Tech and Facebook about a new method for \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2020\/01\/21\/facebook-speeds-up-ai-training-by-culling-the-weak\/\u0022\u003Espeeding up AI training by culling weak AI agents\u003C\/a\u003E. Together, they have created an AI system that can navigate a 3D environment from a starting point to a goal with a 99.9% success rate and few mistakes.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;While I\u0026rsquo;m interested to see how the conference transitions to a virtual format, I am happy that the carbon footprint of people travelling and the cost of attendance will be greatly reduced. \u0026nbsp;This may serve as a useful test case for organizers to support the\u0026nbsp;rapid growth in attendance seen by multiple annual machine learning conferences\u0026rdquo; \u0026ndash; \u003Cstrong\u003EJiachen Yang\u003C\/strong\u003E, ML@GT Ph.D. student. Yang will be presenting his work on \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/bit.ly\/2UL0WMI\u0022\u003Eteaching multiple AI agents to work together\u003C\/a\u003E to accomplish goals more quickly and accurately.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDevi Parikh\u003C\/strong\u003E, an associate professor in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ic.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Interactive Computing\u003C\/a\u003E and the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ml.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EMachine Learning Center at Georgia Tech (ML@GT)\u003C\/a\u003E, will still deliver the keynote address. Parikh will talk about AI systems at the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing.
