Monthly Testing of Campus Warning System

To ensure that the Georgia Tech Siren Warning System is in continuous operational condition, the Office of Emergency Preparedness began testing the system on the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2008.

For this month's test, all speaker stations will be first tested individually and then all speakers simultaneously, at least two times or more. Then, remote tests will be conducted. Today's tests, though longer than normal, will be concluded by or before 11:30 a.m.

The test message is:

"Attention. Attention. This is a test of the Georgia Tech Emergency Notification System. This is only a test. This is a test of the Georgia Tech Emergency Notification System. This is only a test.”

The Siren Warning System is comprised of seven speaker stations located across campus. Designed to notify people who are outdoors, the system complements the Georgia Tech Emergency Notification System (GTENS), which delivers time-sensitive emergency messages in the form of e-mail, voice mail and text messages to the campus community.

The SWS will only be used for emergency situations, monthly testing or special testing.
