The role of an Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech is illustrated through out the career of subspecialized surgeon in the field of Urology. The wide rage of skills provided by such a degree include, software programming, signal processing, robotics, lasers, fiber optics and problem solving.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EBiographical Sketch of the Speaker: \u003C\/strong\u003E Dr. Byrne grew up in New Jersey and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology to study electrical engineering. He worked for several years as an engineer before entering medical school. He obtained his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University where he also completed his general surgery internship and urologic residency. Dr. Byrne completed a one-year fellowship in Endourology and stone disease at the Cleveland Clinic. His clinical interests include endoscopic and percutaneous surgery for stone disease along with the medical management of stone disease. He is currently a partner at a large urology practice in Richmond Virginia.
