{"633280":{"#nid":"633280","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Botchwey Named Associate Dean in Professional Education","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE) has named Nisha\u0026nbsp;Botchwey, associate professor of city and regional planning in the College of Design and an adjunct professor in Emory University\u0026rsquo;s School of Public Health, its new associate dean of academic programs. Botchwey\u0026nbsp;was selected following a national search\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;will begin her new role on March 9.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe\u0026nbsp;holds a master\u0026rsquo;s and Ph.D. in urban planning from the University of Pennsylvania and a master\u0026rsquo;s in public health from the University of Virginia.\u0026nbsp;Throughout her career, Botchwey\u0026rsquo;s research has focused on health and the built environment,\u0026nbsp;with an emphasis on youth engagement,\u0026nbsp;health\u0026nbsp;equity,\u0026nbsp;and data dashboards for evidence-based planning and practice.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe has earned many distinctions, including an NSF ADVANCE Woman of Excellence Faculty Award, a Hesburgh Award Teaching Fellowship from Georgia Tech, the Georgia Power Professor of Excellence Award, a Rockefeller-Penn Fellowship from the University of Pennsylvania\u0026rsquo;s School of Nursing, and a Nominated Changemaker by the Obama White House\u0026rsquo;s Council on Women and Girls.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;GTPE has embarked on a transformational journey to strategically align our academic offerings with the needs of a rapidly changing workforce.\u0026nbsp;Nisha\u0026nbsp;Botchwey\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;experience with strategic planning, team management, and community engagement will enhance our growth plan and elevate the quality of offerings for an ever-increasing, diverse population of learners,\u0026rdquo; said\u0026nbsp;Nelson\u0026nbsp;Baker, dean\u0026nbsp;of Georgia Tech Professional Education. \u0026ldquo;We are thrilled to have such expertise on our team.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGTPE serves the fastest growing learner population in higher education: working adults aged over 25.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn this new position,\u0026nbsp;Botchwey\u0026nbsp;will\u0026nbsp;support the development of new demand-driven programs, such as\u0026nbsp;additional\u0026nbsp;at-scale\u0026nbsp;online master\u0026rsquo;s degrees,\u0026nbsp;a\u0026nbsp;new\u0026nbsp;Fintech Academy, and pioneer\u0026nbsp;contemporary educational\u0026nbsp;products including alternative credentials and enhanced career services for adult learners. Members included\u0026nbsp;Daniel Castro,\u0026nbsp;chair and professor\u0026nbsp;in the\u0026nbsp;School of Building Construction;\u0026nbsp;Lizanne\u0026nbsp;DeStefano,\u0026nbsp;executive director\u0026nbsp;for the\u0026nbsp;Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC);\u0026nbsp;Larry Jacobs, associate dean of\u0026nbsp;the\u0026nbsp;College of Engineering;\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;Sri Narasimhan,\u0026nbsp;professor and\u0026nbsp;business analytics center\u0026nbsp;co-director in the Scheller College of Business.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The applicant pool was extremely competitive,\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;said Jacobs. \u0026ldquo;Alongside\u0026nbsp;her experience and relevant technical skills, it was\u0026nbsp;Botchwey\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;enthusiasm, clear preparation,\u0026nbsp;and strong\u0026nbsp;people skills\u0026nbsp;that stood out.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech has been at the forefront of creating cutting-edge educational offerings that are accessible to career-minded individuals and provide real-world knowledge.
