{"632004":{"#nid":"632004","#data":{"type":"news","title":"January Monthly 2020","body":[{"value":"\u003Ch1\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ENEW SOS STRUCTURE\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h1\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs of Spring 2020, Students Organizing for Sustainability will have three committees: Fridays for Future, Eco-Warriors, and the GT Community Garden.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFridays for Future\u003C\/strong\u003E:\u0026nbsp;Responsible for organizing the weekly Fridays for a Future actions\u0026nbsp;outside on Skiles Walkway. This committee focuses on\u0026nbsp;climate awareness, encouraging student climate action, and promoting more sustainable education on campus regardless of major(s).\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EEco-Warriors\u003C\/strong\u003E: The Eco-Warriors committee (Climate Action) meets weekly to discuss solutions\u0026nbsp;to on-campus sustainability issues. We welcome students from all majors and backgrounds. Some of the current projects from this committee include expanding the residential composting program, educating students on energy-saving measures, and advocating for eco-friendly consumer choices.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGT Community Garden\u003C\/strong\u003E:\u0026nbsp;The Community Garden committee runs the Community Garden at Georgia Tech and volunteers with other Atlanta environmental organizations. You can find the community garden on the east wall of the Instructional Center! Some of the events we host\/attend throughout the year include garden workdays (all levels welcome), Trees Atlanta volunteering, de-stress yoga, and sustainable DIY-events.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch1\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EUPCOMING EVENTS\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h1\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFebruary Monthly Meeting\u003C\/strong\u003E: The February SOS monthly meeting will occur on both \u003Cem\u003EThursday, February 13 at 6pm, and Monday, February 17 at 5pm\u003C\/em\u003E. A second date is listed for those who cannot attend the first one. The location of these meetings will be posted on the Facebook and Engage pages.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFridays for Future Weekly Tabling\u003C\/strong\u003E: The Fridays for Future committee will continue meeting on Fridays for \u003Cem\u003E10:00-11:15am\u003C\/em\u003E on Skiles Walkway.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EEco-Warriors Weekly Meetings\u003C\/strong\u003E: The Eco-Warriors committee will continue meeting on Thursdays from \u003Cem\u003E5:00-6:00pm\u003C\/em\u003E generally in Kendeda 118.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECommunity Garden Work Days\u003C\/strong\u003E: The Garden committee will meet from 10:00a-12:00pm on the following dates- February [9, 22],\u0026nbsp;March [8, 28], April [12, 25].\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESOS Speaker Series 1\u003C\/strong\u003E:\u003Cstrong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003EThe first of our guest speaker events for the semester will be held on \u003Cem\u003EThursday, March 5\u0026nbsp;at 11am\u003C\/em\u003E in Kendeda 210 with Emma Brodzik, Campus Recycling Coordinator, to discuss Georgia Tech\u0026#39;s recycling program and answer general recycling questions.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESOS Speaker Series 2:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;The second of our guest speaker events will be held on \u003Cem\u003EMarch 25 from 1:15-2:05pm in Kendeda 210\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;and will feature a presentation on Georgia Tech Dining and Georgia Tech Housing\u0026#39;s sustainability initiatives.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EOther SOS events which are not yet confirmed will be added later, and\/or sent in the SOS newsletter through listserv.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Ch1\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EPAST JANUARY EVENTS\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/h1\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMonthly Meeting\u003C\/strong\u003E (1\/9\/20): Reviewed edited constitution, election of new officer roles, explanation of new SOS structure, and overview of upcoming events.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EFridays for Future Weekly Tabling\u003C\/strong\u003E (1\/10\/20-): The Fridays for Future SOS committee meets weekly on Fridays to spread awareness on the climate and ecological crisis, and support student climate action.
