The first story revolves around gigantic single cells protists (~5mm in length) that can contract their bodies rapidly (\u0026lt;5ms). I will describe our discovery of how these cells harness these ultrafast contractions to send \u0026lsquo;hydrodynamic trigger waves\u0026rsquo; for communicating over long distances in cellular communities. The second story is about aquatic worm blobs that knot with their neighbours to form living entangled masses or blobs. I will describe how these soft squishy three dimensional blobs can rapidly morph their shape, move across terrains, and even solve mazes.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"A Biological Sciences Seminar by Saad Bhamla, Ph.D."}],"uid":"27964","created_gmt":"2020-01-23 18:58:31","changed_gmt":"2020-04-07 15:31:12","author":"Jasmine Martin","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","field_event_time":{"event_time_start":"2020-04-16T11:55:00-04:00","event_time_end":"2020-04-16T11:55:00-04:00","event_time_end_last":"2020-04-16T11:55:00-04:00","gmt_time_start":"2020-04-16 15:55:00","gmt_time_end":"2020-04-16 15:55:00","gmt_time_end_last":"2020-04-16 15:55:00","rrule":null,"timezone":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"hg_media":{"631502":{"id":"631502","type":"image","title":"Saad Bhamla","body":null,"created":"1579805429","gmt_created":"2020-01-23 18:50:29","changed":"1579805429","gmt_changed":"2020-01-23 18:50:29","alt":"","file":{"fid":"240315","name":"bhamla_saad.jpg","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/bhamla_saad.jpg","image_full_path":"http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/bhamla_saad.jpg","mime":"image\/jpeg","size":66827,"path_740":"http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/bhamla_saad.jpg?itok=JPb7KkOF"}},"631503":{"id":"631503","type":"image","title":"Cells \u0026 Worms","body":null,"created":"1579805510","gmt_created":"2020-01-23 18:51:50","changed":"1579805510","gmt_changed":"2020-01-23 18:51:50","alt":"","file":{"fid":"240316","name":"cells squish and worms blob.png","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/cells%20squish%20and%20worms%20blob.png","image_full_path":"http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/cells%20squish%20and%20worms%20blob.png","mime":"image\/png","size":321035,"path_740":"http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/cells%20squish%20and%20worms%20blob.png?itok=-O7a6FKT"}}},"media_ids":["631502","631503"],"groups":[{"id":"1275","name":"School of Biological Sciences"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[{"id":"166892","name":"School of Biological Sciences Seminar"},{"id":"177841","name":"Saad Bhamla"}],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[{"id":"78761","name":"Faculty\/Staff"},{"id":"177814","name":"Postdoc"},{"id":"78771","name":"Public"},{"id":"174045","name":"Graduate students"},{"id":"78751","name":"Undergraduate students"}],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[],"email":[],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
