{"630849":{"#nid":"630849","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Epic Intentions Sets Projects for Spring 2020","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAt the end of last semester, Epic Intentions hosted its Final Showcase, where students displayed the seven projects they\u0026rsquo;d worked on throughout the fall. Epic Intentions is a group of Georgia Tech volunteers who do pro bono work for nonprofits, social enterprises, and civic-minded entrepreneurs throughout Atlanta.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe group\u0026rsquo;s work includes making marketing videos, coding databases, and developing strategic plans for clients. Each semester, members of Epic Intentions are placed into teams of 4-7 students with one team lead, and each team is assigned to one of the semester\u0026rsquo;s projects.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Many nonprofits don\u0026rsquo;t have the resources to tackle all the projects they would like, to take their organization to the next level,\u0026rdquo; said Amanda McWaters, president of Epic Intentions and a business administration major. \u0026ldquo;We have so many talented people across many disciplines at Georgia Tech that we can take on most projects brought to us by our nonprofit partners.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFor one of their projects this semester, Epic Intentions developed a membership portal for Urban Perform, which makes exercise accessible and affordable in the Atlanta neighborhoods of English Avenue, Vine City, and Washington Park. The portal makes\u0026nbsp;it easier for members to sign up for and confirm their attendance at classes. Because of this, Urban Perform will be able to better track membership trends and communicate to national and local investors the impact they have on their community.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEpic Intentions also worked with such nonprofits as the no-kill animal shelter Furkids and The Scholarship Academy, which helps low income, first generation college students navigate the ins and outs of financial aid.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe group recently finalized its list of projects for this semester. They include:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ECreating strategy plans for Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and the Center for Sustainable Communities.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EDeveloping a website and logo for a new dog rescue organization, Stand Up Pups.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EProducing videos for the East Decatur Greenway and Raksha, an organization that helps South Asian victims of violence.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EImproving an online tool that helps land developers at the Partnership for Southern Equity promote racial equity as metro Atlanta continues to grow.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EDeveloping a fleet management system for the vehicles used by the Partnership Against Domestic Violence.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEach team will start developing its next project by creating a project charter. They will hold work-a-thons throughout the semester to provide a concentrated time for all of the teams to get closer to their end goals.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEpic Intentions will also host an Update Showcase on March 12, where the public is welcome to meet each team and view their progress before the Final Showcase on April 15.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;It is the most special thing to hear from the nonprofits about how much a single project will affect their organization,\u0026rdquo; McWaters said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEpic Intentions is accepting \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/bit.ly\/EpicSpring2020\u0022\u003Eapplications\u003C\/a\u003E for team members for this semester through Jan. 14.
