629670 news 1575467325 1575641793 <![CDATA[Students Showcase Their Work at the Computer Science Junior Design Capstone Expo]]> Many students who pursue a B.S. in Computer Science or Computational Media from Georgia Tech complete their studies with a year-long software design project. These projects unfold as students apply the development and design skills they have learned throughout their studies at Georgia Tech to develop a software solution to a real-world problem. As they develop their software solutions, students also develop skills in professionals and technical communication appropriate to the software industry. 
 
These projects are lead by clients within the Georgia Tech campus community and various professional industries beyond campus. This years schedule with a description of each project can be found here. Clients serve as professional advisors, guiding the students in the realization of their vision, while providing professional, communicative, and development experience beyond the classroom. The two semester course series culminates in a public facing expo. The Fall 2019 expo featured 38 student teams demonstrating their projects in the Klaus Atrium (map).
 
Many clients and potential clients were able to attend our Fall 2019 expo  and were very impressed with the quality projects that our students completed. Stryker, NCR, and Walmart all sent judges to the expo and there were additional representatives from State Farm and the College of Computing. We had a first prize winner and a runner up for both the first and second session with prizes provided by Airbnb, Google, Walmart, and the College of Computing. And the winners are (*drum roll*):
 
Session 1
First Prize: Team 9105-Eye Tracking (Airbnb Gift cards)
Runner up: Team 9142-Integrated Informed Consent (Google branded High Sierra Duffle bags)
 
Session 2
First Prize: Team 9130-Plantlanta Volunteering (Walmart Gift card)
Runner up: Team 9131-StreamViz (GT Blankets)
