Mellon Foundation is pleased to announce the first Capitalist Souths interdisciplinary graduate student conference to be held March 13-14, 2020, at the UGA campus in Athens, Georgia. This conference is part of the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts Global Georgia Initiative.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOur conference invites graduate students to submit proposals that illuminate new work that draws together the history of capitalism and the US South in its Atlantic World and Global South contexts. The theme, Capitalist Souths, addresses the increasing difficulty to understand the development of capitalism in the US South without understanding its embeddedness in transnational and global flows of capital, labor, ideas, and people. The interdisciplinary aims of our conference exemplify the growing importance of diverse methodologies in the study of capitalism\u0026rsquo;s developments and changes in the US and Global South.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWe welcome single paper and panel proposals concerning, but not limited to:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ETransnational histories of the US, Latin America, Africa, and\/or Asia\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EDevelopment of capitalism in the US South\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ELabor and capital migrations \u0026bull; The \u0026ldquo;Nuevo South\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EContested citizenship\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EHybrid global identities\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EEnvironmental and geological impacts of capitalism\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIndividual proposals should include a 250 word abstract and a short bio of the presenter. Panel proposals should include a 250 word panel abstract and short bio and paper abstract for each presenter. All proposals should be submitted electronically in Word format to the committee at capitalistsouths@gmail.com.
