This nomination recognizes 14 different organizations at a black tie gala on December 12th, 2019 (at the Masquerade) where they will announce the recipient of the award. This nomination is the result of using innovation in communication, community building, and development in Atlanta\u0026rsquo;s mission to increase food security for residents by 2.5%, by 2020.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\u0026nbsp;\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003EDr. Mullen\u0026rsquo;s community outreach, scholarship, and teaching are integral to her place in this nomination. In the form of service on policy working committees, and building on an already robust line of communication between Georgia Tech and the network of community partners in social and urban resilience, Dr. Mullen\u0026rsquo;s embedded participation in civic outreach has been intensive. This work is part of her monograph (in preparation) \u0026ldquo;There\u0026rsquo;s No Space Like Home: Locavore Writing and the Rhetoric of Place\u0026rdquo; (along with a number of public-facing essays, articles, and speaking engagements).\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003EIn her ENG 1102 SLS Linked Courses (and independent study teaching), Dr. Mullen\u0026rsquo;s students have developed a great deal of multimodal, public facing, work that has contributed to community food security: food policy proposals, a podcast series for food literacy, interactive, public facing, choose your own adventure in alternate food history computer games, an app to locate fresh food in \u0026ldquo;food desert\u0026rdquo; (food apartheid) areas, communication strategies and campaigns (social media, community, public writing, ads, short documentaries).
