  <title><![CDATA[Federal Defender Criminal Defense Law Opportunity]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>The Federal Defender Program, Inc. is a Georgia non-profit organization that provides legal&nbsp;representation to indigent individuals charged with federal crimes in the Northern District of&nbsp;Georgia as well as death-sentenced individuals in federal proceedings. For the Spring of 2020, we&nbsp;have unpaid intern positions open to students available to work on a volunteer basis, as well as&nbsp;paid Federal Work-Study positions.</p>

<p>Interns will work primarily in the Capital Habeas Unit, which represents death-sentenced clients&nbsp;during the habeas corpus component of their appeals. Students will work closely with the Capital&nbsp;Habeas paralegal team and experience a variety of cases and projects. Responsibilities include&nbsp;organizing case documents, reviewing trial transcripts, and conducting research on capital&nbsp;punishment and case-specific topics. Interns will also develop professional skills and perform&nbsp;general office duties such as copying and scanning documents. In addition, students will have&nbsp;opportunities to interact with attorneys, investigators, and other FDP staff, and attend court&nbsp;proceedings.<br />

The Federal Defender Program is located downtown, three blocks from the Five Points MARTA station:<br />

The hours available to interns are Monday-Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm and Friday 9:00am- 4:00pm.<br />

Interns&nbsp;are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.<br />
