Linguists have recognized that we are essentially incapable of talking about temporal matters without referencing spatial ones. \u0026quot;In language \u0026mdash; any language \u0026mdash; no two domains are more intimately linked than space and time,\u0026quot; wrote Israeli linguist Guy Deutscher in his 2005 book \u0026quot;The Unfolding of Language.\u0026quot; \u0026quot;Even if we are not always aware of it, we invariably speak of time in terms of space, and this reflects the fact that we\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003Ethink\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;of time in terms of space.\u0026quot;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDeutscher reminds us that when we plan to meet a friend \u0026quot;around\u0026quot; lunchtime, we are using a metaphor, since lunchtime doesn\u0026#39;t have any physical sides.
