{"628410":{"#nid":"628410","#data":{"type":"news","title":"FLAS Fellowship","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC), a consortium of Georgia Tech and Georgia State University is pleased to announce the competition for 2020-2021 FLAS Fellowships.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe FLAS fellowships assist undergraduate and graduate students in achieving competency in selected foreign languages in combination with international and area studies coursework.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;The FLAS Fellowships are available for the less commonly taught languages of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Persian\/Farsi, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFunding for French, German, and Spanish languages may be available ONLY for GRADUATE students at an advanced-level. French, German and Spanish are NOT eligible languages for UNDERGRADUATE students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFLAS fellowships can be used to study abroad or on campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents can apply for both Summer and Academic Year fellowships, which are evaluated separately so there is no disadvantage to applying to both.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo apply, please read and follow the instructions below carefully.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EApplication Deadline: January 3, 2020 | 11:59 pm EST\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EEligibility:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EU.S. citizen or permanent resident\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EApplication submitted to, enrollment in, or acceptance for enrollment in a Georgia Tech or Georgia State degree program\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EUndergraduates must pursue study of a language at the intermediate (2nd year) level or beyond and can only apply to study less commonly taught languages of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Persian\/Farsi, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. French, German and Spanish are NOT eligible languages for undergraduates.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EGraduate students may pursue language study at the introductory level ONLY IF they already have advanced-level proficiency in another language related to their area of study or research and studying a second language is relevant to the student\u0026rsquo;s studies and potential future career. This should be explained clearly in the statement of purpose. Graduate students are also eligible to apply to study advanced-level French, German or Spanish but preference will be given for intermediate or advanced-level study in less commonly taught languages of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Persian\/Farsi, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESummer 2020 FLAS Fellowships\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUndergraduates and graduates: living stipend of $2,500 and up to $5,000 for Georgia Tech\/Georgia State tuition and fees and for the language program.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESummer fellowships are intended for intensive language study domestically or abroad. Intensive language study is defined as a program that offers at least 6 weeks of language instruction with 140 contact hours at the beginning (graduate students only) or intermediate levels or 120 contact hours at the advanced level.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe AGSC encourages applications to Georgia Tech\u0026#39;s School of Modern Languages\u0026#39; study-abroad programs (modlangs.gatech.edu\/study-abroad) or eligible GSU\u0026rsquo;s Study Abroad programs (https:\/\/mystudyabroad.gsu.edu).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAcademic Year FLAS Fellowships\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUndergraduates: living stipend of $5,000, up to $10,000 towards tuition and mandatory fees, and out-of-state students receive an out-of-state tuition waiver at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGraduates: living stipend of $15,000, up to $18,000 towards tuition and mandatory fees, and out-of-state students receive an out-of-state tuition waiver at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E*Academic year fellows are required to take one language course and one global\/area studies course each semester. Only full year (9-month) fellowships are available.
