{"627772":{"#nid":"627772","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Dr. Julie Ancis to Leave Georgia Tech","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EDr. \u003Cstrong\u003EJulie\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u003C\/strong\u003E,\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s inaugural associate vice president of Institute Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, has announced\u0026nbsp;she will be leaving Georgia Tech to accept a position as professor and director of cyberpsychology at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESince 2012,\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u0026nbsp;has been the architect of numerous diversity initiatives\u0026nbsp;strategic to the Office of the President and\u0026nbsp;focused on developing faculty, staff, and campus leadership.\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u0026nbsp;has served as\u0026nbsp;an influential\u0026nbsp;advisor\u0026nbsp;to campus leaders on issues of equity and inclusion, and a noted researcher and author on these topics.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Dr. Ancis has made important contributions during her time at Tech,\u0026rdquo; said Dr.\u003Cstrong\u003E Archie W. Ervin,\u003C\/strong\u003E vice president for Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. \u0026ldquo;Her extensive scholarship in psychology and diversity as well as national and international professional service has helped transform many Institute processes and procedures\u0026nbsp;to eliminate bias and discrimination.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAmong her many contributions to Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s evolution in this area, she\u0026nbsp;has been\u0026nbsp;instrumental in helping\u0026nbsp;faculty\u0026nbsp;search and award committees create systematic, objective and transparent evaluation procedures for awards, hiring, and promotion processes.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWorking in collaboration with the ADVANCE Professors to\u0026nbsp;integrate\u0026nbsp;equity,\u0026nbsp;diversity,\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;inclusion-aware practices and behaviors into Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s fabric,\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u0026nbsp;developed\u0026nbsp;and facilitated\u0026nbsp;implicit bias workshops\u0026nbsp;that became\u0026nbsp;mandatory for all faculty serving on search, promotion, and tenure\u0026nbsp;committees, the Provost\u0026rsquo;s Committee,\u0026nbsp;a number of high-level search committees, and other evaluation-related committees on campus. Approximately 1,000 faculty have participated in these workshops\u0026nbsp;and in\u0026nbsp;order to expand capacity and demand,\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u0026nbsp;created and conducted a train-the-trainer program for faculty who now facilitate additional implicit bias workshops on\u0026nbsp;campus.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe\u0026nbsp;has\u0026nbsp;also\u0026nbsp;expanded this work\u0026nbsp;into\u0026nbsp;content-specific workshops for\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;Admissions, computing and engineering\u0026nbsp;students, and other audiences.\u0026nbsp;A\u0026nbsp;plethora of resources related to bias awareness, hiring,\u0026nbsp;mentoring, promotion, and assessment\u0026nbsp;within academia\u0026nbsp;are captured in the equity, diversity, and inclusion website developed by\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u0026nbsp;at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/edei.advance.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003Ehttp:\/\/edei.advance.gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe also created\u0026nbsp;the template\u0026nbsp;for, and\u0026nbsp;co-facilitated,\u0026nbsp;the Leading\u0026nbsp;Women@Tech\u0026nbsp;program, a\u0026nbsp;competitive\u0026nbsp;academic year-long\u0026nbsp;program\u0026nbsp;designed to strengthen\u0026nbsp;the development of women\u0026nbsp;in leadership positions\u0026nbsp;at Georgia Tech. Under\u0026nbsp;Ancis\u0026rsquo; leadership,\u0026nbsp;participation\u0026nbsp;has grown, and\u0026nbsp;the curriculum has\u0026nbsp;expanded\u0026nbsp;to include\u0026nbsp;mindfulness and efficacy.\u0026nbsp;More than\u0026nbsp;60 female leaders over three cohorts have graduated since\u0026nbsp;the\u0026nbsp;inception\u0026nbsp;of the program.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDevelopment of the inaugural LGBTQIA Resource Center director\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;position was led by Ancis, including benchmarking existing centers,\u0026nbsp;and working\u0026nbsp;with the Center to help establish\u0026nbsp;its signature\u0026nbsp;initiatives. She\u0026nbsp;also\u0026nbsp;served as Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;lead contact and outreach committee\u0026nbsp;co-chair for the\u0026nbsp;Out to Innovate Conference,\u0026nbsp;a biennial cross-generational summit that provides an educational and supportive environment for LGBTQIA\u0026nbsp;students, academics, and career professionals in STEM fields.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAncis\u0026nbsp;was also involved in the development and revisions of the Georgia Tech Climate Study in 2013 and 2018, as well as qualitative research analysis, interpretation and presentation of findings to audiences across campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Ancis\u0026nbsp;has\u0026nbsp;continued to engage in research and scholarship\u0026nbsp;throughout her time at\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech.
