It is the premier conference for the discipline.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOrganized by the Georgia Institute of Technology\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of Public Policy\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, the biennial conference was\u0026nbsp;held October 14 to\u0026nbsp;16, 2019 at\u0026nbsp;the \u003Cstrong\u003EGlobal Learning Center\u003C\/strong\u003E. Policy experts presented research on\u0026nbsp;topics\u0026nbsp;including \u003Cstrong\u003Ethe scientific workforce\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003Ethe ethics of science and adoption of innovation\u003C\/strong\u003E, and \u003Cstrong\u003Ethe impact of\u003C\/strong\u003E \u003Cstrong\u003Erevolutionary forms of manufacturing on the future of work\u003C\/strong\u003E. Plenary sessions\u0026nbsp;reflecting different facets of the science and innovation system and an early career poster session also took\u0026nbsp;place.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHighlights included a plenary talk by former Georgia Tech employee \u003Cstrong\u003EKamau Bobb\u003C\/strong\u003E, the Global Lead for Diversity Strategy and Research at \u003Cstrong\u003EGoogle\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003Eon the importance of diversity in science, technology, and innovation.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFormer\u0026nbsp;School of Public Policy chair, professor emerita, and conference founder \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/cozzens\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESusan Cozzens\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E moderated a plenary entitled \u0026ldquo;Fourth Industrial Revolution: Whose Opportunity? Whose Threat?\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The fourth Industrial Revolution is a\u0026nbsp;new manufacturing approach\u0026nbsp;that some people think will completely revolutionize manufacturing, but a lot of people are worried that it\u0026#39;s going to put half the workforce out of work,\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;Cozzens said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOther School of Public Policy faculty also participated, including School Chair \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/fealing\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKaye Husbands Fealing\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, who spoke\u0026nbsp;about broadening inclusion in science and engineering, and former School Chair and former\u0026nbsp;Regents\u0026rsquo; Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/sustainability.asu.edu\/person\/barry-bozeman\/\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EBarry Bozeman\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, who participated in a panel about bridging the divide between research and practice in science policy.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EInternational and interdisciplinary scope, the Atlanta Conference\u0026nbsp;attracts more than 200 participants\u0026nbsp;from 30 countries. In addition, student volunteers from units across the Ivan Allen\u0026nbsp;College\u0026nbsp;and across campus assist,\u0026nbsp;representing the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/econ.gatech.edu\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of\u0026nbsp;Economics\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, the \u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESam Nunn School of International Affairs\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E, the \u003Cstrong\u003EH.
