{"62709":{"#nid":"62709","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Loper Named 2010 WIT Woman of the Year","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAt the 11th annual Women of the Year in Technology Awards, Women in \nTechnology named Georgia Tech Research Institute Information and \nCommunications Lab Chief Scientist Margaret Loper its 2010 Woman of the Year in Technology in the Medium Business category (251 to 2,500 employees).\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cIt is a great compliment to be included with so many talented \nGeorgia women as a Woman of the Year recipient,\u201d Loper said. \u201cI have \nbeen extremely fortunate to work for people that understand the value of\n mentoring, education and community service, and have\u0026nbsp;supported my \ncommitment to\nworking with students, teachers, STEM groups and researchers. My desire \nis to be a positive role model and help people see that this career path\n can enable them to have a positive impact on the lives of others.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ELoper was named the winner at the Nov. 10 \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.mywit.org\/signature-events\/women-of-the-year\/2010-women-of-the-year\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Ebanquet\u003C\/a\u003E\n held at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel Galleria. Women in Technology, \none of three organizations that merged to form the Technology \nAssociation of Georgia in 1999, recognized 52 honorees at the event.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWith more than 25 years of experience in modeling and simulation, \nPrincipal Research Scientist Loper created the Georgia Tech Modeling and\n Simulation Research and Education Center (MRSEC), bringing together \nboth academic faculty and GTRI researchers for the advancement of \nsimulation\ntechnology. She joined GTRI as a research scientist in 1995, and \nreceived her doctorate\nin Computer Science from Georgia Tech in 2002.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0022We are very proud of Margaret\u0027s Women of the Year in Technology \naward,\u0022 said ICL (formerly ITTL) Director Jim McGarrah. \u0022In addition to playing a \ncritical role in ICL by her being my chief scientist and chief \nstrategist, she has a passion for stimulating interest in STEM [science,\n technology, engineering and mathematics] education.
