{"624406":{"#nid":"624406","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Campus Center August Update and Logistics Map ","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Campus Center construction continues throughout August and the attached\u0026nbsp;diagram illustrates the alternate pathways that\u0026nbsp;will be in place while the utility infrastructure work is carried out\u0026nbsp;in order to maintain sufficient egress in the event of an emergency from the Ferst Center or Smithgall Building.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;While this portion of work takes\u0026nbsp;place, there are some things to note about accessing the\u0026nbsp;Smithgall\u0026nbsp;Building and Ferst Center:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EThe existing eastern planter in front of the Ferst Center\u0026nbsp;has been reconfigured\u0026nbsp;with a level walkway surface to maintain access to the building.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;Additionally, a new temporary accessible pathway will be constructed to preserve\u0026nbsp;traffic flow to the west side of campus.\u0026nbsp; This allows work that otherwise would have obstructed the exits from the Ferst Center to occur without compromising the safety of those visiting the Ferst Center.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EAccess to the north side of the Smithgall building will be\u0026nbsp;limited. Folks should use exits on the east, south, and west sides of the building.\u0026nbsp;Once the construction\u0026nbsp;footprint shrinks, the north exit from the atrium will be accessible once again. The exit from the Student Media suite will remain open but traffic will be rerouted by\u0026nbsp;a small pathway\u0026nbsp;connecting to the sidewalk along the west side of the building.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EThe\u0026nbsp;Dean Griffin statue\u0026nbsp;will remain outside of the work area, but the plaza will not be accessible during much of\u0026nbsp;this period of work.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe work that we had hoped to achieve in the Ferst Plaza and to the north of Smithgall was delayed this summer by a series of factors \u0026ndash; working around events in order to maintain life safety, also unforeseen subterranean conditions and utilities that necessitated a complete redesign of the work.\u0026nbsp; Some work has begun in this area but the effort will start in earnest following the President speech September 6\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWe know that this disruption will be more difficult to manage as fall classes begin.
