Against visuality, whose beginning can be \nfound in plantation slavery, comes the right to look. Visuality uses \ncertain techniques to form what he calls \u201ccomplexes of visuality.\u201d In \nhis talk, Mirzoeff demonstrates the functioning of these techniques in \nrelation to the strategy of global counterinsurgency that is currently \nthe doctrine of the U.S. military.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EBio note\u003C\/strong\u003E:\u003Cbr \/\u003ENicholas Mirzoeff\n is Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York \nUniversity.
