He is advised by ECE Associate Professor Mark Davenport, and his research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and Lockheed Martin Corporation.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EKarnik received the award for his paper entitled \u0026ldquo;Fast multitaper spectral estimation,\u0026quot; written together with ECE Schlumberger Professor Justin Romberg and Davenport. This paper presents new insight into and a novel algorithm for computing the classical Thompson\u0026#39;s multitaper spectral estimate.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFor large signal lengths and spectral resolutions, Karnik\u0026#39;s fast algorithm enables potential dramatic reductions in the computational cost of computing the multitaper estimate.
