{"619658":{"#nid":"619658","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Karen Head Receives Georgia Tech\u0027s Class of 1934 Outstanding Service Award","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;Faculty Honors Committee has awarded the\u0026nbsp;Class of 1934 Outstanding Service Award to\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/head\u0022\u003EKaren Head\u003C\/a\u003E,\u0026nbsp;executive director of the Naugle Communication Center\u0026nbsp;and the associate chair and associate professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\u0026nbsp;committee was impressed by\u0026nbsp;Head\u0026rsquo;s distinguished record of service\u0026nbsp;to Georgia Tech, as well as her contributions to the Atlanta community and beyond.\u0026nbsp;She will receive the award at the 2019 Faculty and Staff Honors Luncheon, which will\u0026nbsp;be held on Friday, April 19, 2019.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESince 2006, Head has been a Visiting Scholar at Technische Universit\u0026auml;t-Dortmund, Germany, where she serves as the primary consultant for their academic center.\u0026nbsp;Her research areas focus on writing and communication theory and pedagogical practice, especially in the following areas:\u0026nbsp;higher education rhetoric, sustainable and innovative pedagogy and space design implementation,\u0026nbsp;development of writing centers, writing program administration, communication ecologies, technical communication, business communication, multidisciplinary communication, and creative writing. She has published four books of poetry and serves as the editor of\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003ESouthern Discourse in the Center: A Journal of Multiliteracy and Innovation\u003C\/em\u003E. In summer 2016, she became\u0026nbsp;the editor of the international poetry journal,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EAtlanta Review\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2012-13, she was part of the Georgia Tech team awarded a Gates Foundation Grant to develop one of the first Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) focused on college writing, and she has published several articles about the experience.
