  <title><![CDATA[Kaye Husbands Fealing Presents on Diversity for National Heart, Lung, & Blood Institute]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Kaye Husbands Fealing, chair of the Georgia Institute of Technology <a href="http://spp.gatech.edu">School of Public Policy</a>, recently&nbsp;gave a presentation entitled &ldquo;Diversity in the Science Policy Profession: Disparities &amp; Influence&rdquo;&nbsp;at the National Heart, Lung, &amp; Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland on February 7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Husbands Fealing specifically mentioned Georgia Institute of Techology&#39;s&nbsp;<a href="http://projectengages.gatech.edu/">Project Engages</a>, and <a href="http://constellations.gatech.edu/">Constellations</a> as exemplars for how Gthe Institute&nbsp;is increasing access&nbsp;to research opportunities in STEM fields for underrepresented students.</p>

<p>Eric Padmore, a program analyst in the National Heart, Lung, &amp; Blood Institute, invited Husbands Fealing to give her presentation. After the talk,&nbsp;she facilitated a discussion with program staff from the National Institute of Health, which included&nbsp;<a href="https://sbir.nih.gov/nhlbi/otacteam" target="_blank">Office of Translational Alliances &amp; Coordination</a>&nbsp;director Matthew McMahon.</p>

<p>Husbands Fealing has specialized in diversity in STEM education throughout her career, which has led to her appointment on the National Science Foundation&#39;s Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering, and&nbsp;the National Academies&rsquo; Developing Indicators for Undergraduate STEM Education panel among many other appointments.&nbsp;</p>
